זהו. אממ... תהנו?

Denmark was feeling down. Lort! It was supposed to be the happiest day of the year – his birthday, but everyone seemed to forget about it. It can't be! Thought Denmark, and threw something into his shopping cart, the words running through his mind over and over again. After all, he made sure that no one will even have the chance oh forgetting this special day, as he kept reminding each of them every single day it was getting close, ever since Norway's birthday three weeks earlier. But still, when he woke up in the morning and kissed Norway's ear and asked him with a broad smile if he remembered what day it was, he just moaned in displeasure and murmured something about leaving him alone and that he wants to sleep. Few hours later, when he made himself his mid-day coffee and Iceland showed up, and instead of a present he handed him a piece of paper with a list written on it and said, “mind go shopping? You're not doing anything important as it is. Oh, and make me a cup of coffee too.”
Sweden and Finland didn't even bother to show up in their house, or even called to say him a lame happy birthday. That's how, after he finished his cup of coffee he found himself in the groceries store with the list Iceland gave him. Even here no one seemed to remember what day it was, but since he remembered it was his birthday, he decided to treat himself with a nice little chocolate cake, with cream and a lovely cherry on top. He deserved a cake, and he wasn't going to share it with any of these ungrateful Nordics. And Iceland can forget about a nice birthday present from him!
He reached the line to pay, and of course it was a pretty long line since some idiot decided to put Spain as a salesman, and as usually he sank to a deep conversation with each costumer that arrived him. When it was finally Denmark's turn, Spain greeted him with a big smile as he did with everyone.
"Hey there, Denmark! Why, weird seeing you here alone. Isn't Norway always here with you to restrain you?”
Denmark frowned as he started loading his purchases. “I don't need anyone to restrain me, Spain.”
"Oh, okay,” the Spaniard said with a smile and kept passing the purchases.
They were quiet for a moment, and then Denmark said, “you know, it's my birthday today.”
"Oh really? Happy Birthda – but, Denmark... you don't really have a birthday, don't you?”
Denmark was hurt. To the core of his bones, that statement hurt him.
"What do you mean by that? Everyone has a birthday – and mine's today! Here, I even bought myself a birthday cake!” he showed him the little cake he planned to eat with great pleasure.
"No one knows about it. I don't think it's written anywhere...”
"It's my constitution day, it's good enough.”
"Oh! Okay. Happy constitution day, then!”
Denmark frowned. “Just do the bill, okay?”
*
Ten minutes later Denmark was out of the store with the bags in his hands and his mood even more gloomy. It definitely was the worst birthday ever. He really felt like taking his ax and hitting something with it.
He finally reached his home, to find an empty house. It was already late afternoon, and no one remembered it was his birthday today, or even told him happy birthday yet. And now there was no one at home, and they sent him do the shopping... what a horrible day. He dragged himself to the fridge to put his purchases in their proper place, and as he was about to open the fridge door he noticed a note attached to it. He read it.
We're at Sweden's, Finland called to say he has something important to tell us. Me and Norway think he might be pregnant. I'm excited for these two, to finally have a child of their own.
Iceland
Oh. So that's why the house is empty. Finland was stealing his rightful attention. He was so going to Sweden's house to take his attention back... Finland can announce whatever he wants on another day!
Furious, the Dane left everything as it was (at least he finished his cake on the way home in the cub) and went to Sweden's. He was too angry to even knock on the door before he opened it, ready to take back what was rightfully his; but on the second he opened the door something jumped on him and hugged him tightly, shouting, “happy birthday, uncle Denmark!” and took all the rage out of him.
It was Sealand, and as the Dane got over the first shock of having something hanged on his neck, he could see the scene around him. Besides Sealand who was, of course, very excited, all the Nordic nations were there too, standing a bit farther, all wearing a silly birthday hats o their heads (Iceland looked really not pleased with it, as well as Sweden). Sealand, of course, had one too. It was probably his idea, too. Even Prussia stood there with a hat on his head, which looked pretty awkward. The whole room was decorated with birthday decorations and colourful balloons; the floor was filled with confetti, which Sealand probably had hard time keeping untouched before Denmark arrived.
The Dane couldn't help a broad smile that spread over his lips, and he looked at everyone. “Woah, woah, kid!” he said happily, looking at Sealand and holding him up. “You almost gave me a heart attack!” The young nation smiled, and then used the height Denmark gave him to put something on the latter's head.
"You should have a hat too, uncle!” he called.
Denmark laughed. “Thanks, kid,” he said, and lowering the child to the floor, messing his hair a little and then arranging the hat on his head properly. Before he managed to say anything else, Prussia was already right next to him, giving him a friendly hug. “Happy birthday, bro,” he said, hitting the Dane's back once in a friendly manner.
"Woah, thank you, guys...” Denmark started, but before he could think of what else to say Prussia moved a little away.
"I think someone else wants to congratulate you,” he explained, and cleared the way for Norway to approach. The latter hugged Denmark closely, and kissed his ear.
"You actually believed we'll forget about your birthday, fool,” he chuckled. “As if any of us could, with all the fuss you made around it. Happy birthday,” he said, almost whispered, and then kissed the Dane again, this time on his cheek, right next to his lips, touching-not touching the soft flesh of them. Then he broke away from him, returning to stand by his little brother, who also said “happy birthday,” but didn't do anything farther than that. Sweden was almost the same, murmuring “h'ppy b'thd'y” almost uncomfortably, and then Finland closed the distance and hugged the Dane closely for a second. “Happy birthday, Denmark!” he said with a broad smile.
Sealand, probably not so pleased with the fact the older nations took the focus off him, dragged on Denmark's coat until he gained his attention, which was pretty soon after he started. “I made you a cake, too, uncle Denmark!” he said, very proud of himself. Denmark laughed shortly, and smiled widely.
"Oh really, you did? I bet it's the best cake in the whole world!” he said.
The young nation smiled broadly. “I really did! Right papa? Mama?”
Sweden and Finland smiled a warm smile at the child. “Definitely the best I've ever tasted, sweetie,” said Finland.
"So why do you keep me waiting so long, kid? I want to taste to awesomeness of your cake!”
Sealand nodded once, and then ran off towards the kitchen, quickly disappearing behind the walls of the living room. Finland followed him, probably to help him lift the cake.
Once the two disappeared, Denmark turned to look at the other present nations. “Thanks... for all that. You really surprised me, what with Iceland sending me to do the shopping... I thought you all forgot about it!”
Iceland chuckled. “You had Spain as a salesman, right?” he asked, and continued after Denmark nodded. “I told him to say that you didn't even have a birthday,” he grinned.
"I almost hit him with my ax for saying that!”
"But you didn't, and I knew you wouldn't.”
"You - “
"Uncle ucnle! Look!” Sealand and Finland just came back, holding a big baking dish in their hands (together, which made them walk very slowly), cutting into Denmark's not-so-nice words and causing Iceland to grin even wider.
"Wow, such a big cake!” Denmark said, adding excitement into his words to keep the kid happy.
"Oh, and wait until they'll take off the cover, you'd love it,” said Norway with a chuckle. And really, a moment later Finland and Sealand put the cake on the table, and Sealand almost ripped the cover from the cake to show Denmark his creation. “Look, uncle Denmark!” he said. Denmark looked, and a broad smile spread on his lips. The cake was covered with red candies all over it – but a cross made of white candies, to represent Denmark's flag. It was a little crooked, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
"Wow! Thanks, Sealand! It's really beautiful!”
"Of course you'd say so, it's your ugly flag on our cake - “
"Shut up Norge, it's MY cake, and I think it's beautiful. Kid, wanna help me cut it to slices - “
"But uncle, you didn't turn off the candles yet!” Sealand seemed almost shocked from the request.
"Of course! You're so right! How could I forget about it! But – there are no candles on the cake!”
Finland chuckled. “Sealand wanted you to have a surprise so he wanted to cover it, so we couldn't put them on the cake,” he explained. “I have them right here with me...” he took a bunch of candles from the pocket of his shirt, placing them carefully on the cake. Then he asked Sweden for a lighter, and lit the candles. Sealand, meanwhile, dragged Denmark towards the cake, and stopped right next to it with him. “You have to make a wish before you turn them all off!”
"I'll make sure to make a good wish,” answered Denmark, and then opened his mouth again, but now a finger was put over his lips, and Norway's face appeared right next to his.
"You shouldn't say it out loud, Danmark, otherwise,” he said. “It won't come true.”
Denmark smiled, and closed his mouth and eyes, making a wish. He thought deeply about it, even though he wasn't a little child anymore, he really wanted to make a wish the proper way. I wish we had more days like this, like a warm family, all of us, he said in his heart, and then opened his eyes and blew the candles off, turning them all off in one shot.
The others clapped, and Norway put a hand on his shoulder. “I hope you wished for something nice and not perverted, eh, Danmark?”
"Shut up, Norge, I'm not like that!”
He heard Prussia chuckling from behind him. “Who're you trying to fool, Denmark?” The rest of the adult Nordics in the room chuckled, Sealand looking at them all with a confused look on his face.
"Shut it,” said the Dane, his face all red. He turned to Sealand, determined to stop that flow of the conversation before it went out of control. “Hey, kid – is now okay helping me cut the cake?”
The young nation smiled, and hurried to get a knife. When he came back Denmark held his hand as he cut the cake, and Norway handed the slices to the others, keeping one piece for himself after everyone else had. Denmark sliced one for Sealand, making sure it was a nice big slice, and then sliced a last one for himself. They all sat down on the sofas in Sweden's living room, Denmark of course sat with Norway on the same couch, even though it was a couch for a single person; the happy little family took the big sofa, and Prussia sat with Iceland on the small sofa right next to it.
For the first few moments they all just ate quietly (of course, after they all praised Sealand for making an excellent cake), and after all had their second and third serve, Finland spoke.
"Well, I think it's time for your presents, Denmark! I'm sure you didn't think we arranged all of this and didn't bring you anything...”
Denmark almost choked on his bite from his fifth slice of cake. “How did you manage to do all this without me knowing anything about it?!”
"Maybe if you weren't so focused on yourself, you'd notice something,” said Norway and smirked, kissing Denmark lightly on his lips.
"Mmm... shut up...” Denmark murmured against his lips.
"Wanna let me go and bring your present, birthday boy?”
"I like you better here, Norge - “
"Shut up and let me get up, would you?” Norway pushed the Dane's hands away and got up from his lap. “Who's coming with me to bring the presents?”
Sealand, as predicted, jumped right up and ran to stand next to the Norwegian. Finland then joined him, and so did Iceland and Prussia. Sweden was the only one who stayed there with Denmark.
There was a moment of silent. “You're going to have some hard time cleaning up here later, eh, Berwald?” said Denmark, already a little filled from the cake.
"Y're g'ing t' h'lp m' o't, y' kn'w,” he answered. “I d'n't c're it's y're b'rthd'y.”
"As if I can even move after all that cake!”
"W'll see if y' c'n m've...” said Sweden, and just then the rest of them came back, their hands full of nicely wrapped boxes.
"Uncle uncle!” called Sealand. “Open mine first!” he ran towards the older nation with a huge smile, holding a small box in his hands.
The Dane smiled back. “Of course I'll open yours first, kid,” he said, and opened the box the child had handed him. Inside it was a drawing – it wasn't so good, but it made Denmark's heart to twitch anyway. It showed himself, holding a big flag, and his ax. It looked like a child drew it, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Denmark pulled Sealand towards him, and embraced him. “It's gorgeous, kid,” he said, and kissed the child's forehead. “I'm so going to hang it as a decoration in my living room!” A few meters away, a chuckle could be heard from Norway.
"I'm so happy you liked it!” Sealand called, still very excited.
"Maybe you want to open our present now?” Said Finland, smiling warmly. He handed Denmark a rather big box that was wrapped poorly. “It's from me and from Sweden.”
Denmark took the box. It was heavy, and it felt as if... something moved inside?
He hurried to open the poor tie of the wrapping, and as he freed it, he didn't even have to open it; it opened itself, and a small, furry head had appeared. It let out a high pitched bark, and looked around itself.
The Dane looked at the puppy with utter shock. Finland and Sweden were giving him a dog as a present? And they kept the poor thing in a box?
As if reading his mind, Sweden spoke up. “We h'd te' keep it in th' extra r'm we h've, b't d'n't w'rry, we treat'd h'm well.”
The puppy then looked at Denmark, his big brown eyes looking straight at the Dane. Then he barked again in his puppy voice, and licked Denmark's hand.
"I... We decided that you and Norway should have someone to take care of together... and a dog is such a nice thing to have in the house. So...” Finland was somewhat red, and a quick look around showed that Norway was all red as well. Denmark couldn't help but think the Norwegian had something to do with this puppy as well.
Denmark took the little puppy out of the box and put it on his knees. “He's adorable,” he murmured, meaning it. The puppy barked again, and then gave in to Denmark's caresses. “Me and Norway will have to sit today and think of a name for him,” he smiled. “Thanks, Sweden, Finland. I really appreciate it... and everything you done for me today.”
A smile spread at once on both Finland and Sweden's face. “'t w's n'thing,” said Sweden.
"Uncle Denmark, can I hold the puppy?” asked Sealand, who was staring at the dog from the moment Denmark took it out of the box. The Dane nodded with a smile, and the child jumped over to take the dog, holding it and petting it.
Denmark looked at the remaining presents, and then looked at Prussia. “Let's see what you brought me!” he said, and Prussia smirked. Somehow, Denmark had the feeling this present was going to be something funny.
"As you wish, pal,” said Prussia, and handed him a box. Denmark opened the lid and looked inside. As he saw what lay in there, he felt his face burn, and he hurried to close it before anyone else could look inside – especially Sealand, who showed intentions of peeking. “Ya like it?” Prussia asked, his smirk broader than ever.
"You sick baster, yes, I liked it.”
Prussia let out a snort of laughter. “I knew you would. And Norway would, too. Why won't you show him what I got for you?”
Norway frowned at this; he probably had an idea of what hid in the box. He wasn't a stupid fellow; he knew both Prussia and Denmark pretty well, and he probably guessed something based on Denmark's reaction. Denmark, however, looked at Prussia. “Later,” he said, the word full of intention.
"As you wish,” said Prussia and crossed his hands over his chest. He seemed so proud of himself. “But admit that I'm awsome.”
Denmark chuckled. “Yeah, right.” he muttered, and then looked at Norway. “What did you get me, that's something I wanna know.”
Norway snorted. “I already gave you my present, I was nice to you all day long. Isn't that enough for you, you greedy nation? It's a sin, you know.”
"Norway! You must be kidding me.”
"What, you should be happy with the present he gives you,” said Iceland, grinning. “You only have one day in the whole year to have Norway not mock you all the time.”
"Shut it, Ice. What did you bring me, anyway?”
"Who said I gave you anything at all?” He said, his hands crossed over his chest and his voice filled with arrogance.
Denmark narrowed his eyes. “Because can see one extra present, so it has to be either yours or Norways'.”
"Fine, then. It's mine, and you should take it.” Iceland handed him the little box, and Denmark took it almost violently and ripped it open to the sounds of laughter from all around the room. Inside was a book. It was labeled The Great Book of Balding. Denmark looked at it and frowned. From the corner of his eye he could see Iceland smirking evilly to himself. He opened the book, and looked at it, moving through the pages. It had ugly drawings of a bald man, and talked about how to deal with getting bald. The Dane cleared his throat.
"Uhm, Ice, I think you brought me the wrong book...”
Iceland chuckled. “Uh, no. I think I didn't. You are getting old, you know.”
Prussia glanced at the book Denmark was holding, and he burst out laughing. “That's a good one!” he called at Iceland, making the young nation smirk to get even bigger.
"Don't praise him for that! I thought you were my friend!”
"Yeah, but, Den – you have to admit it's really funny!”
Denmark didn't know if the pressure inside him was rage of laughter; it was so like Iceland to do something like that, just like he could predict Prussia's present before he saw it.
Even Norway had difficulty controlling his laugh. “Yeah, and, you know, Danmark... it's important that you'd know how to deal with it when it comes... I already can see blonde hairs on your pillow every morning....”
"Shut up! It could be yours too!”
"On your pillow.”
"As if you never put your head on it!”
"Ha-ha, uncle Denmark is getting bald!” Sealand laughed, finally getting the joke.
Denmark snapped a glance at the kid, and then back at Iceland. “See what you've done?! Now the kid thinks I'm getting bald...”
Norway laughed shortly. “But you are!”
That was already too much; Denmark grabbed the closest pillow and threw it in Norway's direction. The latter just caught it.
"He's just too old already to admit it,” shrugged Iceland, and took the pillow his brother was holding and putting it on the closet sofa. “You have to forgive him... you know, first stage is always denial.”
"Shut it, Ice. I'll prove you I'm not old... not a tiny bit...” Denmark had a wicked smile on his lips as he said that, and he closed the book and put it aside. “And you, Norge – I'm looking forward for a present.”
"You idiot, Denmark. Here,”
And he handed him a small dark blue box that he took out of his pocket. It had no ribbons and such on it, just a plain, blue little box. It was even smaller than Denmark's hand. The Dane was, indeed, somewhat surprised; though he knew Norway didn't really mean what he said earlier, he thought he'd wait to the last moment. He was happy to discover he was wrong with that assumption, and hurried to open the little box. Inside lay a little silver bracelet. It was simple, but beautiful. Denmark lifted it from the little box, soon feeling Sealand's breathing right next to him, as the child wanted to see what was hiding there. “It's... beautiful, Norge. Thank you,” he said, and meant every word.
The Norwegian, though, didn't seem satisfied. “Try to look in its inner side.”
Denmark did as he was told, and now that he payed attention he could see a curving in the metal. It said, Min dum dansker, thllykke med fodselsdagen. Norge.
Denmark almost had tears in his eyes. He never thought the Norwegian could even think of something like that. He looked up to meet Norway's eyes, and said, “It really is beautiful, Norway. Thank you,” and then he straggled to put it on his hand. Norway smirked, and approached, helping him with that. Once the bracelet was on his hand, both men looked up at each other, and smiled softly. “Det er smuk, Norge,” Denmark said quietly, and then held up his hand to touch Norways' chin. Then he closed the short distance between them, and kissed him slowly on his lips. They kissed for a long moment, ignoring the comments from Sealands' direction and Prussia's direction. They broke it when Sealand said he thought Norway's present was pretty but not that much that it was worth ignoring everyone else. He seemed pretty proud of himself when Norway took a step back and offered to play something all of them together.
They spent the rest of the evening playing Truth or Dare, with everyone trying to restrain Prussia with his truths and dares next to Sealand, at least until the young nation fell asleep in Denmark's hands.
It was definitely the best birthday ever, Denmark thought happily, as he was forced to sing a silly kids song in danish.
